Light debate
is absurd
To the Editor:
Having just read yet another report of the umpteenth rehash of the Town Council’s street lighting dilemma I can only conclude that this has reached epidemic projwrtions of absurdity.
Officials, elected by the town residents to represent their interests, are blutantly ignoring a clear mandate voiced by its constituency. More people responded to the poll than were sufficiently interested to vote for some of the council members.
The reason most often cited for ignoring the cleurly stated preferences of the town residents seems to be that the cost data was omitted from the poll and therefore the residents were deemed not to be in a position to muke an intelligent “informed” choice.
The members of Town Council, who also do not posses these vital facts, appear to have a crystal ball permitting them to make this decision for those of us who are assumed to dwell in a state of perpetual ignorance.
As an immigrant to this beautiful land of a free and open society 1 can’t help stating my disappointment in the democratic process of “government by the people for the people" as I see it practiced within the small confines of the First Washington of all.
