Wilder boosts
tree growers
Virginia Governor Lawrence Douglas Wilder today designated December as Virginia Christmas Tree Month when he was presented with two Christmas trees from representatives of the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association.
The Governor was presented with a six-foot white pine, which will be used in the upstairs, private quarters of the Mansion, and an 11foot Fraser Fir, which will be placed in the public viewing area on the first floor of the Mansion.
The trees were presented by Joseph K. Korosec and Daryl Schwartz of Four Springs Christmas Tree Farm near Bowling Green. Korosec and Schwartz, who represented the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association, won the Association’s contest for the best tree at the Association's annual convention.
In accepting the trees, the Governor noted that Korosec and Schwartz set out to win the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers’ annual tree contest w'hen they first started Christmas tree farming in the early ’80s.
Gov. Wilder suggested that Virginians use the same determination to “build a better future for our children and rebuild our nation’s economy so that the dreams of all of our citizens can come true.”
