An Ordinance Providing for the

Popular Election of the

Rappahannock County School Board

On Monday, January 4,1992, at 7:00 p.m. at the Courthouse in Washington, VA., the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County shall meet to consider the following Addition to the County Code: 1. Pursuant to §22.1-57.2 of the Code of Virginia a referendum was held in the County of Rappahannock, Virginia, on 3 November 1992 at which a majority of the qualified voters of the County voted to change the method of selecting school board members from appointment by the Board of Supervisors to popular election. 2. As authorized by said referendum and §22.1*57.3 of the Code of Virginia, on the date of the next regular general election at which members of the governing body shall be elected in November 1995, the first election of members of the school board shall be held. All 5 members of the school board shall be elected at that time. 3. The school board shall consist of 5 members, one from each of the 5 existing election districts of Rappahannock County established for the election of the governing body. 4. Each member of the school board shall serve for a term of 4 years. Said term to commence on 1 January following the date of their election. 5. Election of members of the school board shall be held to coincide with the election of members of the governing body. This Ordinance Is to make effective the referendum adopted by the Voters of Rappahannock County on November 3, 1992. All persons interested are invited to attend and to make comment.
