forested areas or back to their homes.

The six recreation areas are 300 acres at Sherando Lake in Augusta County, Va.; 300 acres at Elizabeth Furnace, 105 acres at Little Fort and 50 acres of Powell’s Fort, all in Shenandoah County, Va.; 25 acres at Storybook Trail in Page County, Va.; and 70 acres at Wolf Gap in Hardy County, W. Va.

Even though large areas of the national forest will be defoliated next year, the Forest Service does not propose to treat all the general forest areas that have high populations of gypsy moths. Instead, the service proposes to treat nine areas, totaling 5,764 acres that contain high value timber.

The nine areas include: 1,191 acres in the Dutchman area, 657 acres at Squirrel Gap, 446 acres on North Mountain, 407 acres on Breakneck Ridge, 242 acres at Mountain View and 138 acres on Rocky Ridge, all in Hardy, W.Va.; 1,700 acres at Hawk in Hampshire, W.Va., and 853 acres at High Head in Shenandoah Cuonty, Va.; and 130 acres in the Cold Spring area in Frederick County, Va.
