Massie added, “The goal we have is the best education the county can afford.”
Liz Blubaugh, who teaches Spanish at both schools asked why the plans called for delaying an addition for the high school for five years.
Dr. Gangel said the elementary school is adding large classes now. “It hasn’t hit here yet," he added.
Helen Williams said that 13 teachers have to leave their classrooms during their planning periods at the high school so other teachers can teach in them. She said five teachers have to leave their classrooms twice during the day to monitor study halls. She added that two teachers share one room and that one teacher has no room and travels from classroom to classroom with a container containing teaching materials.
“There isn’t room for the teachers to sit and have lunch. Our workroom and lunchroom are the same small space,” she added. “We aren’t complainers. We do the best we can, but this is the time for you to hear that the high school has problems too.”
She read a letter from elementary physical education teacher Carol Nowakowski noting that it was very difficult for her having the chorus practicing on the stage during gym classes.
Dr. Gangel had proposed that the only space left if another classroom is needed to to put the band and chorus on the stage.
