Dei. Wood
will seek
second term
State Del. Jerry Wood, D-31st, threw down the gauntlet at a meeting of the Fauquier Democratic Committee on Monday night.
While noting that he was concentrating on “about 10 pieces of legislation” that were due up during the next session of the General Assembly, scheduled to begin on Jan. 13, Wood also took note of challenges to his seat.
“As all of you have probably seen, there are a couple of people who have come out on the Republican side to run against me, and >. they’ll have to fight that out amongst themselves,” Wood said, noting that the Republican candidate would be decided in March.
Republican committee chairman Jay Katzen has announced his candidacy, and Marshall District Supervisor James Green has indicated his interest.
A little later in the session, Wood put to rest any doubts about the fire in his belly for a second term. “Short of my death,” he announced, “I’ll be running.”
The other important news that the 31st District delegate brought to the committee dealt with the still non-news surrounding the bus trip that President-elect Clinton will make from Monticello to the Lincoln Memorial en route to becoming President Clinton.
“I can tell you a few things about it, but I can’t tell you anything important about it,” Wood said. “Nothing is official, and they have asked that we not do very much talking about it,” Wood said.
