For the safety of construction personnel and motorists alike, the speed limit will be lowered to 45 miles per hour through the work zon^ until construction is finished, said* Larry Garber, Culpeper resident engineer, of the Virginia department of Transportation. Signs will be posted advising motoristsr,pf the lower speed limit.
Garber said that motorists should be aware that the fine tor speeders in a highway work zone is $250. .
The work is being done by L.F. Franklin and Sons Inc. under a $2.7 million contract that was awarded by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in J anuary. '
The Stephenson firm has nearly finished the four laning on U.S. Ml between Washington and Covington River.
The Route 3 project is expected to be finished in early 1994.
Garber also advised motorists to be watchful for changing traffic patterns. ,,
