would take careful planning to make certain tables were free for the new classes. Assistant Principal Raye Tupper explained that the main purpose of the intervals between classes is to give the cafeteria workers time to replenish the serving line and mind the cooking that continues during most of the lunch period.

There is talk of adding a second • serving line, but this would only fill the tables faster, she said. Adding more workers might made it possible to shorten the times between grades, but again this would fill the tables faster, and there is really little room for additional tables.

All classes are assigned to two tables. Few classes actually use all the seats at both tables, but putting more children at the tables would probably mean assigning each childa seat and separating children from their classmates.

Probably the best way to add additional class sections will be to ' extend the lunch period, either starting before 11 a.m. or ending later than 1:40 p.m., or both.
