Country dance
series continues
Bluemont’s series of popular oldtime country dances continues this Saturday, March 13, with the Caledonia Stringband and figure caller Carlotta Wellington at the Rappahannock Elementary School near Washington.
These Second Saturday dances attract people throughout the area with wonderful oldtime country dancebands and figure callers and a friendly atmosphere that welcomes both new and experienced dancers.
Sponsored by the Bluemont Concert Series, the dances begin at 8 p.m. with a beginner’s workship at 7:30 p.m. Instruction and calling provided throughout the dance; single dancers are welcome. Homemade refreshments by the Spring Mountain School will be available throughout the dance.
Admission is $5 per person; $3 for Bluemont Friends. All are welcome.
The March dance features Caledonia, a high energy danceband from Charlottesville. The band consists of Carlotta Wellington, hammer dulcimer and figure calling, Laura Light on fiddle and Janet Muse on piano. The evening will include oldtime Southern and New England country dances in circles, lines, and squares.
These dances will be held the second Saturday each month October through May and will alternate locations between Fauquier County (the Marshall Community Center) and Rappahannock County (the Rappahannock Elementary School).
A Bluemont dance committee of volunteers helps plan and present the dances; anyone who would like to help out at a dance or at other Bluemont events should contact Katherine Treanor (937-5794). Sid Gottleib (547-3934) or the Bluemont office at the address and number below.
The next Second Satuday dance will be on Saturday, April 10, at the Marshall Community Center, with Tuppence Blackwell and the Dance Can’t Hurt You Stringband.
