Four men were indicted by the Grand Jury at the opening day of the March Term of the Rappahannock County Circuit Court on Monday afternoon.
Only two of the men, Mark Curtis and Ernest Lee Rooker, appeared in court yesterday to be formally served with their indictments. Mr. Rooker, 23, of Washington, has been charged with grand larceny. He is already in the Rappahannock Jail on a charge of probation violation. Monday afternoon bond was denied on the larceny charge and an attorney was appointed.
Mr. Curtis, 28, of Summerduck, was indicted by the Grand Jury for breaking and entering the home of David and Helen Smith, and grand larceny for the theft of jewelry from the Smiths. He was released on bond.
Also indicted were Kenneth Thomas Ross for possession of LSD and Romeo Wilmer Ferguson, of Jeffersonton, for possession of PCP and possession of marijuana. Arrest warrants were issued for both men.
Ross is a resident of Oklahoma and Ferguson could not be found, Sheriff John Henry Woodward told the court.
While the Grand Jury was hearing evidence Judge Shore Robertson worked his way through a crowded list of cases.
