Legislation signed by President Clinton on March 4 continued the federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program until Oct. 2, 1993.
Virginians who exhaust their regular unemployment benefits may receive up to 20 weeks of EUC payments or 100 percent of their regular unemployment insurance entitlement, whichever is less.
The extension allows new claims for EUC to be filed until Oct. 2, 1993, and weeks of EUC benefits to be claimed through Jan. 15, 1994.
All Virginians now receiving EUC benefits, are being notified of the extension by the Virginia Employment Commission. The extension does not provide additional weeks to the long-term jobless who have already exhausted their regular benefits and received all of the EUC to which they were entitled.
More than 143,000 Virginians have filed for EUC benefts since the program was initiated in November of 1991.
