Since the Arab-Muslim north and African-Christianized south have had struggles for year, “the British persuaded by father to maintain contact with both sides of the country. While others were sent to school in the south, we were sent to the north. We were the only non-Arabs in the school.
The north was considered the mainstream of the country so the chiefs children went there. Being out of our cultural context was both challenging and rewarding,” he said.
After receiving a law degree. Dr. Deng pursued post graduate studies at Yale and studied in Europe. Persuaded by a friend to apply for a job at the United Nations, Francis Deng was drafted into National Diplomacy work and has since served as the Ambassador from Sudan to Canada.
He was most recently appointed to work as personal representative for Boutros Boutros-Ghali on the problems of displaced people of the world.
