Waste structure

saves nutrients

By JOHN JEFFRIES

Do you need to increase your crop production and at the same time spend less money on your fertilizer bills? Then you will want to consider installing a water storage structure for you operation.

Whether you produce meat, milk, or grain, your profit depends on using plant nutrients in a manner that will produce the best crop at the least cost. Manure can supply the majority of the nutrients needed for crop production on an average field for this area.

An animal waste structure is used to temporarily store liquid or solid wastes as part of a pollutioncontroled or energy-utilization system to conserve nutrients and evergy and to protect the environment.

It stores manure and parlor water for the winter months. This helps by not being forced to spread daily, you can stay out of the fields when they are wet. Most systems, if designed by SCS, are planned for a six month period.

From a management standpoint, you will have control of when, where and how much manure is applied.
