Ms. Diemel explained the state recommendations for time students should receive in therapy depending on the severity of the problem. She said the students were not getting the recommended time, and that# they were being served in groups larger than the state recommends. —.
Chairman Beverly Massie asked how much it would cost to make the second position full time.
Bookkeeper Bonnie Hahn said it would add $10,885 to the budget counting fringe benefits.
Several board smembers appeared prepared to add that amount to the budget.
School Superintendent David Gangel said other things he had hoped to add had been cut from the budget, such as a full-time art teacher and an alternative education program at the high school. “Our rule of thumb in special education has been to wait until we approach mandated numbers,” he said.
The board will meet again next Tuesday evening to act on the budget. Dr. Gangel asked for a week to look at alternatives for the speech position. I
