Mr. Moore said VDOT is activelylooking for property along U.S. 211 that would be suitable for the maintenance headquarters.
In the meantime, he has some ideas. He would like to put curb and gutter and a sidewalk along the church’s parking lot, and reduce the radius of the corner at the same time; that is, more nearly square off the northeast corner of the intersection.
To discourage traffic trying to. cut through the parking lot, which occurs often now, he would narrow the two entrances to the lot. That lot would gain a few more spaces in the process.
As part of his plan Mr. Moore is strongly encouraging The Inn to eliminate the parking in front of the restaurant and also in front of the Post Office and cafe. (The Inn now owns that building and uses the upstairs apratment for its business office.)
Mr. Moore also would like to take the alley between the Post Office and the Washington House into the state system under a special Rural Addition Policy that VDOT administers.
He also proposes a no-parking zone in front of the Washington House and a stop sign for south bound traffic there. He also would put a stop sign on the stub alley and keep the one now on Middle street.
That would make the intersection a three-way stop and he is considering a fourth stop sign for traffic north bound on Main Street.
Residents will have a chance to ask questions of Mr. Moore at the upcoming Secondary Road Hearing before the County Board of Supervisors on April 5.
