More than 2,000 Civil War reenactors from around the world will participate in the reenactment of the Battle of Sailor’s Creek on Sunday, April 4, at Sailor’s Creek State Park in Amelia County. Activites are planned for Saturday, April 3, as well as the day of the reenactment. A $2 fee will cover parking for both days.
The weekend’s activities were coordinated by the Sailor’s Creek Preservation Committee, which works with Virginia’s Department of Conservation and Recreation to promote and preserve this historical state park.
The Battle of Sailor's Creek was the last major battle of the Civil War and was fought on April 6, 1865, just 72 hours before the Confederate surrender at Appomattox. At Sailor’s Creek Confederate General Robert E. Lee lost approximately 8,000 men.
