School sports thrown
curve by bad weather

The continued bad weather has completely thrown off the Spring sports schedule for the high school. Teams have been unable to practice outdoors. Scrimmages have been cancelled.
The girls’ softball team was to open its season this Thursday against Luray. Although a final decision had not been made by presstime Wednesday, Principal John Toth said it was unlikely the game could be played. The field is simply too wet.
If the softball field is wet, the baseball field is a swamp. Both the baseball and softball teams were to host Strasburg on Monday. Those two games are possible, but doubtful. The soccer team is scheduled to open its season this Friday against James Wood. No decision has been made but if they play it won’t be soccer - call it mud ball.
All the other schools in the Bull Run District are in the same situation so the principals have decided to scrub the first half of the season for baseball and softball. The first round of games will not count towards tournament seedings. This will require some rescheduling of games to make sure no teams have an unfair home field advantage.
All eight baseball teams will be entered in the district tournament and only one of nine softball teams will be eliminated from their tournament.
As a result, the pre-season schedule is in shambles. Fans will have to check often at the school for changes.
