And while he is right that anything that can be done to minimize abortion as a campaign issue in Virginia would work to Republican adavantage, the problem with his suggestion is that convention debate of any such resolution would be so fierce and divisive it might overshadow the nominations themselves in getting media attention.
Despite the feeling among some pundits that Miller might eventually elect to drop back and try to get nominated as lieutenant governor, he has all but ruled that out. That’s too bad for the media, too, since it would be fun covering a candidate who used to sing with Roy Clark and would have put his entertainment background to good use in a statewide campaign.
But speaking as one who’s known Clint Miller since he first came to Richmond, I think his yearlong campaign for governor has rubbed off some of the remaining rough edges and given him a broader vision of Virginia. He is fond of saying in his preliminary remarks that it’s ’Miller Time’ in the state. That may be a bit premature given the reality of delegate counts, but he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future for the gospel he’s preaching is exactly the right one, namely that a political party can’t do a thing unless it’s able to win elections.
