provements are needed for the sewage systems at both schools that could easily cost the difference between that figure and $1.5 million.

Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell said the school system will have the land purchased from Mr. Leake tested to see if it is suitable for a drainfield.

He said that if the school had a septic system and drainfield, it would no longer have to meet requirements of the State Water Control Board. Only Health Department regulations govern such systems, he said.

The elementary school sewage system will be required to install monitoring wells and treat to remove ammonia otherwise. Even if a drainfield is used, he said, there will still be costs to close the current lagoon.

Mr. Chappell said the state is also requiring the school system to make changes at the high school sewage treatment system. They may need to add dechlorination and replace the chlorine contact tank, he said. They will also have to install an aeration system. Mr. Chappell said it would be difficult to use a drainfield system at the high school because so much of the land is used for athletic fields. These fields cannot be over drainfields, he said.

The supervisors met in executive session with Junie Bradshaw of the Mays and Valentine law firm in Richmond. Mr. Bradshaw has been retained by the supervisors to represent the county in opposing the REC transmission line from Sperryville to the Rixeyville substation.

Mr. Luke brought a suggested ordinance to prohibit target shooting in heavily populated areas for the supervisors to consider. He said they would have to decide exactly what areas to include.
