Six people were arrested Saturday night at a field party attended by 250 in the F.T. Valley near the Madison County line, said Rappahannock County Sheriff John Henry Woodward.
The party organizers charged $5 admission and provided a live band. Most of those attending brought beer or liquor with them to the affair, and many, including some teenagers, were drunk.
Arrested were organizers Leonard Ray Wilson, Patrick Wilson and Juanita Burke, all or Route 231, Sperryville, and William Brooks, Brandy Station. Two additional people, one of them a minor, were arrested and charged with Drunk in Public when they refused to leave the premises when ordered to do so by the police.
The party was stopped after an undercover officer bought a ticket and the organizers took his money. The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department was assisted by units from Culpeper. Madison, and Page counties, and by the Virginia State Police.
Sheriff Woodward said the organizers were charged with "operating a festival or party without a special use permit,” a violation of the Rappahannock County zoning ordinance and “attempting to aid or abet a violation of an A.B.C. act,”.
