The figures released by the VEC show that in August 1993 there were 3,193 workers employed in Rappahannock County and 148 unemployed. A month earlier there were 3,110 employed and 178 unemployed.
The figures for the number of unemployed include those who are not working who are actively looking for employment. They do not include formerly employed workers who have lost their job and decide to retire or otherwise leave the labor force.
The unemployment rate for Planning District 9, which includes the counties of Rappahannock, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, and Orange also wak down 0.3 percent to 4.3. The figures estimate that 55,974 workers are employed in PD-9, versus 55,948 employed in July. The number of unemployed workers in the district was 2,493 in August, down from 2,682 in July.
Fauquier County accounts for almost half of the District’s employment, with an estimated 26,329 employed workers. The unemployment rate in Fauquier declined 0.2 percent to 3.6 percent in August.
A year ago, in August 1992, the unemployment rate in Rappahannock County was 7.5 percent. At that time it was 6.U for Virginia and , 7.3 for the nation.
