The set was his education; he absorbed an amazing amount of information and had opinions on subjects, in many fields. He had never seen the monuments and public buildings of Washington, D.C. and when at last he was able to visit (though in a wheelchair) the Lincoln Memorial and the stirring words engraved on the walls w'ere read to him, the old man lowered his closecropped gray head and wept.
