Jerry Wood has been out meeting people, seeking support for his reelection bid.
Del. Wood, who represents all of Rappahannock County, most of Fauquier County and about half of Warren County in the House of Delegates, is a Democrat running in a mostly Republican area. Still he says his polls show he is running ahead of his successful pace two years ago.
He said much of his time is involved in service to his constituents, helping to cut through the state and local bureaucracies.
His voting record is moderate. He took a “no tax increase” pledge two years ago, and he said he kept his promise. He is making the same pledge this election also. Del. Wood said he voted for the bond referrendums and for some fee increases, but he said he does not consider those tax increases.
He said the “number one issue is funding for education.” To find more state funds for local education he will introduce a bill to return 25 percent of state lottery profits to the localities, based on the school-age population.
