Still in the Francis Thornton Valley and 4.2 miles from Sperryville and a half mile from Piedmont Farm is the house of designer and builder, Jon Morgan.
While the house is new, finished in 1989 and three years in building, the atmosphere is one of American heritage as the house is furnished with antiques, mostely 18th century. Early American clocks, old quilts and early presidential memorabilia are improtant to see. Wormy mapel floors, cherry kitchen cabinets, distincitve millworlj, oversized fire• places of antiqued brick, and hand braided rugs made by Mr. Morgan’s Mother add to the feeling of history that is pervasive throughout the house from its copper colored metal roof to the wooden ceiling in the billiard room. The wood in the ceiling is very old and wide.
Yet this is a thoroughly modern house with four heat zones, a state of the art security system, commerical electrical system and separate plumbing for all bathrooms, (each of the six bedrooms has its own bath) two kitchens and two laundry rooms. Even the jacuzzi has its own plumbing system.
Mr. Morgan experimented with cooper roofs. An overhang at the back show is experimentations. Popper by the sea turns verdigris, but
