The Planning Commission again considered whether to try to regulate ridge top development at last Wednesday’s meeting when they took up consideration of steep driveways and erosion.
“Our basic problem is scenic blight rather than erosion blight,” Jackson District representative David Fannon said.
Stonewall-Hawthom District representative Sharon Pierce said, ‘The only way I see to deal with it is with the percentage of ground cover that is removed.”
Mike Massie, who represents the Board of Supervisors on the Planning Commission said that the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection has guidelines on that. Mr. Fannon said that people who apply for a building permit to put a house on top of a hill should be made aware of guidelines for locating it elsewhere. “There should be some limitations to where you build it, so the impact of your dream house is not terrible for everybody.”
