Rappahannock sent 19 young tennis players to a compeititon at the Culpeper Tennis Center earlier this month.
They played matches in which the winning individual or pairs team had to win eight games and had to win by two games.
Carlos Avelar lost 1-8 in a singles match. Laura McNear and Cari Kerr won 9-7 in a doubles match. Kiersten Kerr and Adam Bouffard won 8-5. Willie Eastham and Chris Kerr won 8-5. Jonathan Moore and Brian Evens lost 7-9. Rob Reeve and Van De Bergh lost 6-8. Van Carney and Rob De Bergh won 8-2. Austin Bouffard and Alex Baumgardner lost 3-8. Spencer Baumgardner and Harris Evans lost 5-8, and Ned Parrish and Lain Carney lost 3-8.
Jean Lillard said that the Rappahannock youngsters played juniors from Culpeper and Fredericksburg who are members of the Culpeper Tennis center. Monroe Baisden, the pro at the tennis center and Ms. Lillard organized the compeititon.
“The purpose was to give the players experience in competition playing against players from other areas,” Ms. Lillard said.
She said another competition in Culpeper will be played in January, and she is planning for one or two matches against players from Front Royal at Crooked Run later on. In addition some of the youngsters will
