“The junior varsity players have real potential. They are able to pick up varsity concepts and apply them to the junior varsity level,” said Coach Leake.

The varsity also won its game against Luray, with a score of 56-52. Coach Leake said, “Though we usually make 70 percent of our free throws, in this game we made 8 out of 26, less than half our usual percentage. I was concerned about playing back to back games.”

“Jonathan Fletcher’s offense contribution was a key to winning the game,” said Coach Leake. “J.C. Welch played Luray’s leading scorer in the second half and consistently frustrated him. It was good to see our seniors lead,” he added.

Four players scored in the double figures: Andre Fletcher had 18, Jonathan Fletcher had 14, Ray Atkins had 12, and Jason Settle had 11.

The next basketball game will be played at home against Luray on Wednesday.

Junior Panthers

The Junior Panthers lost both of their games this week. Page defeated them 44 to 18. Coach Renee Leake said “This wras probably due to nervousness.”

Madison outscored the Junior Panthers 56 to 36, but the players did a lot better this time, she said. Jason Baldwin scored 14 points, and Mike Settle, who is a sixth grader, scored seven points.

Volleyball

The volleyball teams fell to both Stonewall Jackson and Central this week. “We were fairly evenly matched with the Stonewall Jackson team,” said Coach Paul Paratore. “The girls did a really good job. Shannon Walter is holding us together. She plays solid and doesn’t get flustered.” he added. In the first game, Rappahannock scored 10 to Stonewall Jackson’s 15, and the next game was 14-16.

“Central was the best team we have played this year,” said Coach Paratore o'f last Thursday’s game. “We played the best we have played this year, even though we were defeated 15-9 and 15-1,” he added. “The scores don’t reflect how' well we played, but if we had played that well every time this season, we
