Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems technology to help prevent truck turn over is being tested by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at three ramps on the Capital Beltway (1-495) in Northern Virginia.
“If the three-year test of this system proves successful in slowing down trucks on interstate ramps, the technology could be implemented on interstate ramps throughout the country,” according to Congressman Frank R. Wolf. Wolf was instrumental in obtaining the federal funding to conduct the three-year study.
The system measures the weight, height and speed of vehicles using interstate ramps, and flashes a warning to drivers who are going too fast and risking turning over on the ramp.
