Flood

The supervisors adopted a resolution thanking the state Department of Forestry for its efforts in clearing up from the flood. With the encouragement of Del. Jay Katzen the Commerce Secretary Robert Skunda, employees of the department worked in the Rush River and its tributaries clearing up debris and stone that made further flooding more likely.

Eugene Leggett said when their heavy equipment could not be used under a bridge near his house because the river bed was too close to the bottom of the bridge, they worked in 95 degree weather clearing out gravel under the bridge by hand.

Mr. McCarthy reported that several areas in Harris Hollow, Beahm Hollow and one along Route 630 and one along Battle Run had been approved for work by the Natural Resources Conservation Service for river cleanup. He said local contractors would be given the opportunity to bid oh the work.
