from Eugenie, we headed lor our final destination. Biarritz, by way of Dax. We were booked at an art-deco style hotel, the Miramar, which, though it could stand a freshening up (fraving towels, worn carpet, et cetera), had a perfect view over the Atlantic and an imposing black boulder jutting up out of the water like a whale coming up for air. We were just up the beach from the far more grandiose, impressive and recently renovated Hotel Palais, which Napolen III had built for the Empress Eugenie.
