1 he Biarritz beaches are mediocre; mans portions are rocky, and the sand is rough-grained, but the town is lively with shops and restaurants, a wonderful walking town where the people are friendly. The odd combination of a neo-Gothic architecture and romanesque-style colonnades in the signature ash-gray stone is architecturally unique from other regions of France we'd seen. It’s a weightier, more brooding style that one might expect along Fngland's coast, for example, which may be one reason Biarritz has been a favorite vacation destination for the British beginning with Queen Victoria in 1889. The newly renovated Casino located right on the beach has reopened and its fresh, white exterior has added sparkle to the town.
