Mr. Beardsley’s work examines the range and ingenuity of these more or less “found object” artisans. In many instances, the privately produced “gardens” have been taken over by public bodies to assure their preservation.
Mr. Beardsley’s book is a work of scholarship and much thought. It is beautifully written, a joy to read. No matter where you open it, you are drawn into another, mysterious world of a dedicated and creative person. The individuals who built “gardens of revelation” are fortunate to have been found by John Beardsley.
