Politicians?
To the Editor:
Virginia Governor George Allen’s political action committee, which he calls “Campaign for Honest Change,” just got caught accepting an illegal contribution of $100,000. This reminds us that during his 1993 race, just about every TV and radio commercial and ever piece of campaign literature that he put out bore the slogan, “It’s Time for a New Generation of Honest Leadership.”
Honesty has not been all that short in Virginia’s history; does anyone really believe that Allen is any more honest than previous governors, just because he says so? There’s an old saying, “If you meet a man who swears he’s honest, clutch your purse.”
