Following his service on Capital Hill, Mr. Herndon was appointed in 1947 to organize and oversee a new Washington lobby operation for the National Association of Independent Insurance, a position he held with distinction and effectiveness for 30 years until his retirement in 1976.
The Herndons moved to Sperryville after his retirement from the Washington Scene and the home they had spent 19 years of weekend work to build themselves.
