Skyline District, games with Page County and Shenandoah County schools always draw large crowds, increasing gate receipts. Rappahannock neither draws nor sends large crowds to games with George Mason, Brentsville or Manassas Park, he said.
Because of this factor, the school would prefer Plan One which keeps the county in a district with the three Shenandoah County schools Clarke and Luray, but that plan-is likely to be defeated because it would not allow schools to move up, he said. Mr. Raines believes the proposal that would allow schools to move up probably has majority support even though it defeats part of the purpose of the realignment.
“I felt so frustrated,” he said. “None of the plans suited us, and they still don’t.” He said he would prefer that the districts remain as they are with RCHS in a nine-school Bull Run District.
The VHSL is expected to adopt some realignment in a meeting September 15.
