The 1995 Rappahannock News Citizen of the Year, Paul Andrew Nichols was bom in Hopewell, Va. August 23, 1926. He was one of nine children of Burel and Elizabeth Logwood Nichols.
After the death of his parents, he joined the United States Navy, becom-. ing a signalman in the Asian basin. Upon his return from World War II, he attended Lynchburg College, meeting his wife of 43 years, Charlotte Virginia Golladay of Woodstock. They married in June of 1953 and moved to Rappahannock the same year. They lived in two homes prior to moving to the white stucco Flint Hill house known throughout the county as the "Nicholses."
