Sheriff Gary Settle said that the training will probably be most useful when Sheriffs Office employees are investigating a breaking and entering or an assault, because fortunately, Rappahannock does not have much hard crime to be investigated.
Earlier in the year, employees attended classes on report writing, supervisory skills and a drug seminar. The drug seminar, which was attended by four employees, was sponsored by the U.S. Attorney's Office. The seminar taught them about methamphetamine, a drug whose presence is increasing, said Sheriff Settle.
Sheriff Settle said that all classes have been free, and the county will not have to pay anything for them.
On Nov. 4 and 5, four of the employees will be sent to a class to learn how to use Identi-kit, a very successful method used to do a drawing of a suspect for use on wanted posters, etc.
The next two classes planned will cover robbery and homicide.
