The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office personnel have been in several mandatory training sessions so far this year.
The most recent class took place last Friday when Erich Junger, a Fauquier County Sheriffs Office investigator of major crimes, spoke about evidence collection to most of the Sheriff s Office deputies. Capt. Jeff Brown and Major Rick MacWelch also taught the class. Mr. Junger recently retired as the chief forensics investigator for the Navy for over 20 years.
He spoke to the group about preservation and collection of evidence at a crime scene, questioning, preliminary scene surveys, photography, lab exams, packaging of evidence^ fingerprinting and other subjects relating to evidence collection. He often interspersed his talk with examples from cases which he has worked on in the past to further illustrate how to do (and how not to do) evidence collection.
