"He enjoyed the time he spent with his own sons and many other sons," said Mr. Thompson with pride. He said as chairman of the round table, Mr. Nichols was a great leader in the Boy Scout world not only in Rappahannock but for counties around the region.
Mr. Nichols died Monday in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
He leaves behind his four children, three daughter-in-laws, Don, Karen and Deb, six grandchildren, Drew (Paul Andrew m) Jake Brown, Erin Elizabeth, Alayna Leslie, Samuel Golladay and Isaac Lewis, two brothers Shannon and Leland of Hopewell and three sisters Clara Casey of Hopewell, Dorothy Jones of New Bern, NC, and Marion Whitehead of Colonial Heights. He is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth and two sisters, Edna and Ethylan. His wife, Charlotte, lives in Flint Hill.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral home' in Front Royal.
In lieu of flowers, tax exempt donations are being, accepted in the name of Paul Nichols in care of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, to establish a Paul Nichols Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will benefit Rappahannock County High School, graduates pursuing higher education who have demonstrated a high level of community involvement.
