Quest Speaker at Black Oak
Colonial Virginia Baptist Preacher John Leland will speak at the Black Oak Regular Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Elder Leland was bom in Grafton, Massachusetts in 1754 but moved to Virginia in 1776 where he began his preaching ministry and struggle with other Baptist preachers against the established church (Virginia then had a state church). The public is cordially invited to attend this service. “A harvest dinner will follow the morning services and all are invited to stay and fellowship with us,” said a church spokesperson.
Revival and Anniversary Set
First Baptist Church will have a week of revival and celebrate their anniversary Sunday, Oct. 28 through Nov. 1.
On Monday, Gospel Fest will be featured, Rev. William Harrison and Mass Community Choir from Mt. Zion, Alanthus and The Gospel Descenders of Middleburg will be guests. On Tuesday, Rev. Journey Beasley from Rock Hall in Wolftown and Beulah from Eggbomsville; Wednesday, Rev. Ludwell Brown from Mt. Cavalry in Haywood and Bethel in Mitchell; Thursday Rev. Forrest Freeman from Bethel in Amissville will be speaking.
A memorial service will be held on Friday with Rev. Howard Frye from Nazareth Baptist. The 123rd anniversary celebration will be on Sunday, Nov. 3 with Rev. Arthur Green. Lunch will be served.
