Rappahannock voters have never before had the opportunity to send one of their own to Congress. Although Bob Weinberg is not a county native, he has adopted it as his home. He and his wife Wendy have brought so much richness to the county through the offerings at the Theatre on Gay Street in Washington.
Frank Wolf has been a hard-working Congressman, but sometimes seems unable to understand Rappahannock County. He brags of an environmental record that includes adding acres of new park land to the National Park system, but in the meantime the needs of the Shenandoah National Park in Rappahannock’s backyard are put <?n indefinite hold.
A few years ago when the park announced that only the middle section of the Skyline Drive would remain open through the winter months, Rep. Wolf rushed to demand that the northern section be kept open to help merchants in Front Royal. He seemed ' unaware that for Rappahannock County merchants nothing could be more favorable than having the northernmost entrance to the Skyline Drive come through Sperryville.
While Rep. Wolf worked to end the government shutdown that caused so much harm to his district, he was a willing part of the Republican Party strategy that led to that shutdown.
Rappahannock's citizens should not miss the opportunity to vote to have their own voice in the House of Representatives.
