"I have followed the process as it went along and I think the Planning Commission has done a marvelous job," said Wakefield District resident Bob Dennis of Rappahannock County's Comprehensive Plan which was approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors at Tuesday's Public Hearing.
"There are some areas which I wish were more detailed but I do wish you would adopt it," he said.
Mr. Dennis went on to add that the county would be well served to figure ways to deal with the issue of waste discharge so it doesn't do any damage to streams in the county.
Hampton District Supervisor Mike Massie said,"This is truly a document that comes from the people and we truly -listened to them when we drafted it.”
Mark Malik of the Rappahannock League of Environmental Protection said, "1 think this plan is an outstanding framework for addressing future development problems in this county."
Despite overwhelming support by county residents in attendance the supervisors had some discussion on some minor errors which needed fine tuning. Most of that discussion centered around Chapter Six - Principle Two, Which addresses the preservation of natural, historic, recreational and scenic values. There was concern that the principle is worded too strongly and could cause problems for people who plan to build on area hillsides and mountain tops and result in restrictions being imposed.
Jackson District Supervisor Ron Frazier said, "I think when we make a strong statement like this you have to look at what you're doing. I wonder if it will open us up to too
