The board approved a motion to coordinate meeting times, dates and candidates for the position of Animal Warden. Supervisors Charles K. "Pete” Estes and Robert Anderson along with County Administrator John McCarthy will interview the candidates. •
Charles Resnick of the Virginia Department of Transportation's Secondary Road Division spoke to the supervisors on the issue of secondary roads.
The state has 47,000 tniles of secondary roads, 10,000 oT«tyhich are unpaved.
"The roads with which we are concerned are paved roads which we don’t want widened to the 50 foot standard," said Mr. McCarthy. "How does VDOT feel about working with existing roads without bringing them to the state standard?"
Mr. Resnick said that in all cases VDOT has had to get an additional right of way but the standards for restoration of a road are different from the regular standard for building a new road. The road is evaluated in the field an a decision is made from the standpoint of traffic patterns, environmental concerns, safety, width, base and probable impact on the road.
Richie Burke presented the fire and rescue bills and they were approved for reimbursement. Most of the money spent was for maintenance on the trucks.
