For a portion of Friday night's game with Brentsville, it looked like the RCHS team could be competitive. Although Brentsville got out to a large early lead, the Panthers scrambled back and were down only two points 29-27 at half time.
However, Brentsville pulled steadily further ahead in the second half and won 67-52.
Coach Baltimore notes that Brentsville plays a very difficult schedule, mostly against AA teams, but he had hopes his team could compete. "We let them take the game to us, and we fell behind the first quarter," he said. "In the second quarter we began taking the game to Brentsville. If they [the Panthers] had played the whole game like the, second quarter, we would have had a chance of winning, but we just didn't do it.”
He praised both Jeff Atkins with 24 points and Jason Baldwin with 14. "They played an exceptional game,” Coach Baltimore said. "They hustled their butts on both ends of the floor, if we'd had the same effort out of everybody, we would have been fine." He also praised Jon Digges for his effort off the bench.
He said the team would have to put the loss to Brentsville behind them and concentrate on the rest of the schedule. A pep bus will be available to take fans to the game at Manassas Park Friday.
JV Coach Jason Gochenour said his plan playing against Madison was to handle Madison's full-court pressure and play a slow tempo game, and his team did that successfully in the first half. "We played good defense.
