Wakefield Homecoming Week

Wakefield School is making preparations to celebrate homecoming on Friday, Feb. 7. That day the Fighting Owls will play Hearth in two basketball games scheduled at 4:30 p.m. (Girls Varsity) and 6 p.m. (Boys Varsity). Headmaster Peter Quinn and his wife, Maryanne will host a Post-game Reception for Alumni, and a Homecoming Dance will be held at 8 p.m. that night

Band Boosters To Meet

The Rappahannock Band Boosters will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 in the band trailer at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. All elementary and high school parents are invited. For more information call Dave Gillis at 987-8817.

Slide Show, Talk Planned

A slide show and talk, Association: Wild Flower and Birds, by John Trott will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Marshall Community Center. This program, presented by the Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society, is free to the public. Mr. Trott recently commented: “This will be a presention of pictures of birds I’ve seen while searching for wildflowers and wilflowers I’ve found when watching birds.” John Trott is a nationally recognized photographer of birds and his images have appeared in a number of books including the National Georgraphic’s, The Wonder of Birds and Audubon Encyclopedia of North American Birds. Periodicals such as Bird Watcher's Digest, American Heritage, and Audubon Magazine have featured his work.

Volunteer Tax Help

Free tax assistance is available to people on low incomes and those 60 and over to complete federal and state income tax forms. Trained volunteers will be at the Rappahannock County Library on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring your 1996 tax package, all W-2 and 1099 forms and last years return. Program sponsored by IRS, AARP and Va. Cooperative Extension.

Services Board To Meet

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, Culpeper.
