recognition of the commission’s hard work, decided not to accept the commi ‘ ion’s recommendation to amend the Zoning Chapter of the County Code regarding professional offices in an agricultural zone.
In other business:
• The board approved supplemental appropriations for the sheriffs office for vehicle insurance, a mini-grant and a block grant.
• The E-911 mapping project advisory committee has gotten two proposals for contracts for hardware and software to implement the program. It was reported the cost will not exceed $60,000. The committee will work out a price for the best contract and report back to the board next month.
• VDOT has indicated to the county that they will soon have a contract for the purchase of part of the former Anderson property, which the county now owns. VDOT will use the property for its new area headquarters. The issue can then go to public hearing.
• The board was advised on the findings of the Regional Vocational Education Task Force. That body is studying the issue of what to do with the Piedmont program for adult education. As of now, there is no real plan for continued funding of the program. The board will seek additional information on the program.
• The regional jail issue was discussed and the board will continue to look at options to try and find ways to keep the jail open and conform to Department of Corrections
