McNear is a volunteer for YFU, she gets no compensation for doing the time-consuming job but does get a great deal of personal satisfaction out of it. “We have the second highest number of visiting students per year of any school between here and Florida. The high school has been great — they love to have the students here and the students get to do more extra curricular activities and even participate in the sports programs here because we are a smaller community.”
YFU is one of the oldest of the exchange programs in operation. It was established in 1951. It is an international nonprofit organization with programs in 40 countries. About 7,000 students and their host families participate annually.
