The United States Department of Agriculture introduced the species into Georgia in 1977 to control aphids in pecan orchards. This is a tree dwelling species which explains why the beetles seem to disappear in the summer.

This non-native insect has no natural predators in North America except the assassin bug. Not hesitant to introduce new species, the USDA plans to solve the excessive population of ladybugs by introducing tachinid flies and a new species of wasps. Also, they are researching a pheromone that attracts the ladybugs to crops and draws them away from houses which sounds like the best solution yet. It is available from mail-order catalogs.

One such catalog is Whatever Works, which sells a package of three lures for $5.99 plus shipping and handling, and claims the solution works for two to three weeks.
