Coach Donn Hackney moved two junior varsity players up to varsity to start in the game. Mark Wharton in right field and Clint Wines on second base both had impressive nights in their first varsity start.
Coach Hackney stressed the improvement in the Panther defense. “Luray scored eight runs, all of them were earned. We made no errors. A lot of their runs came from doubles hit over the fence. We caught all the catchable balls.”
