And I daresay there isn’t any legislator in Virginia who would who would publicly suggest that the gambling game known as Bingo and sponsored by churches, rescue squads, fire departments, veterans groups and fraternal orders, should be abolished. Yet more people spend more money week after week on Bingo and legal gambling pull tabs than horse players would ever bet if there were several dozen horse betting parlors in the state.
I saw the great horse Secretariat at Doswell, before he raced as a 2 year-old and I have at home a framed photo of him winning the 1973 Kentucky Derby. He never raced in his home state, of course, and the odds are that any future Secretariats won’t race here either since Colonial Downs has become a longshot
